Turkey, Istanbul, 3 June / Trend / Tykey's export in May totalled $12.281bln and climbed to a record level in the monthly export ever registered in the history of the country. For comparison, the figure is 11.6 times more than Turkey's yearly export in 1989. Including May indices, Turkey's export in the recent 12 months has increased by 28.42% to $120bln.

The chairman of the Exporters' Assembly of Turkey Oguz Satici said when divulging recent statistical data that the export has increased by 34.48% in May from the same period of 2007. According to him, export has increased by 36.36% in the first five months of 2008 to $55.73bln.

The highest export was observed in the transport sector - $2.536bln. Production sector's export totalled $1.965bln and chemical production export comprised $1.507bln.

Agriculture and cattle breeding made up only 8.46% of May export (32.52% increase as compared to 2007).

The highest export rise occurred in the industrial sector. In May, the figure increased by 34.62% to $10.936bln, which is 89.05% of the total export.

Germany, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Russia, France, Rumania, the United States, Holland, Iraq, Iran, Greece, Bulgaria, Belgium, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Azerbaijan and China took the place of first twenty countries amongst those who exported gas from Turkey in May. The first 20 countries made up 68.53% of the total export. Germany was the one country with whom Turkey has implemented $1bln goods export.

The results have given basis to positive statements made by the representatives of the Turkish government. Gurshad Tuzmen, Turkish State Minister of Economy, stated that if the foreign commerce will increase in such tempo then Turkey would exceed the $125bln rate per year, as one of the key aim of export. According to the Minister, the figure will reach $200bln if the import is also taken into account. Turkey will become a country with the huge volume of foreign commerce ($325bln).

At the same time, supervisors and specialists express their concern that the internal policy of Turkey may hinder the economic development of the country. From this point of view, the result of the process in the Constitutional Court, to close the ruling Fair and Development party of Turkey, causes great alarm. Oguz Satici, Chairman of Turkish Exporters Assembly, stated that Turkey becomes free of political problems that "covered the agenda of the country".

"The current agenda should be directed towards the economy, as well as the issues which concerns the public and integration into the European Union," Satici said.
