Hormozgan province is the hub of fishery in Iran as over 60 fishing sector factories are active in the province, IRNA quoted the province's fishery department general director Qodrat Mirzadeh as saying.
Of those 60, currently there are 36 fish processing and packaging factories are active in the province with the total production capacity of 7,200 tons per year, he said, adding that there are also 16 fish powder factories.
He went on to note that ther are also 9 active canned fish production units, with annual production capacity of 55 million canned fish, he added.
Iranian Fishery Organization Director Gholamreza Razeqi has said that the value of exports of Iran's fishery sector will surpass $350 million in the current Iranian calendar year, which began on March 21.
"The exports stood at $210 million last year," Razeqi said, IRNA reported.
Some 4,000 tons of shrimp, valued at around $17 million, was exported last year to the UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon, Australia and Spain, he said, adding that infrastructures have been provided to export 500 kilograms of caviar in the current year.
Iran plans to increase annual caviar output by 10 fold to one ton in the current calendar year, Razeqi said in June.
Iran has transferred the operation of 32 fishing ports to the private sector in the current Iranian calendar year, Razeqi said.
The decision has been taken in line with the article 44 of the Constitution, which stipulates privatizing state-owned entities, he noted.
The organization aims to transfer the operation of ports and harbors to cooperatives and unions, he added.
