TEHRAN, Iran, Aug. 20

Urmia-Nazlu-Sarv transit highway is to be put into operation by September 22, and more than 80 percent of the project work has been completed in the current Iranian year (started March 20, 2020), said deputy head in roads and urban development of West Azerbaijan Province.
"The construction of the transit highway started in 2006, and with 80 percent of the work progress, the remaining 10 kilometers remain to be installed," said Mirabdullah Hosseini, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"Total of 440 billion rials (about $10 million) has been invested in the project, and 300 billion rials (about $7 million) of credit were assigned to complete the work," he said.
"The construction of the country's west transport corridor is nearing completion and it will connect Bukan County to Bazargan border; Urmia–Nazlu–Sarv highway is an important part of this route," Hosseini added.
"The highway will play a significant role in reducing traffic to the Bazargan border crossing that connects Iran to Europe," the deputy head noted.
"The plan targets to improve Iran's economy and secure domestic and foreign transit. It is expected that infrastructure development within the project will also increase employment in the West Azerbaijan Province," he said.
