By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

In September 2020, registered merchandise exports of Georgia increased by 8.6 percent year-on-year, Trend reports via the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

The growth in exports to Russia largely contributed to an increase in export earnings from the countries of the region, which is largely due to the export of ferroalloys, various fruits, nuts, and medicines.

According to the NBG, Ukraine (cars, alcohol, mineral water, and wine) and Azerbaijan (electricity, industrial tobacco, cattle, frozen meat, live turkey, and live goats) stand out among the countries for the export of Georgian products.

Exports from Georgia increased to China as well as to Spain due to the re-export of ores and concentrates of both copper and precious metals. Exports by country were less diversified compared to the previous year.

As reported, the export of copper ores and concentrates (11.3 percentage points) made the largest positive contribution to the increase in export earnings by 8.6 percent in September 2020.

According to the National Bank, the export of hazelnuts increased significantly, accounting for 2.9 percentage points of the total export growth.

On the contrary, revenues from the re-export of passenger cars are declining.

Exports by commodity groups were less diversified compared to the previous year.
