Georgia, Tbilisi, Jan.23 / Trend , N. Kirtzkhalia / Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili announced live from the Public television of Georgia that he supports the cooperation with Russian Company Inter PAO on the joint control of Inguri hydroelectric power station.

In spite of the criticism of opposition, the Head of State emphasized that this is "pragmatic step", which was directed toward ensuring energy security of Georgia.

"I consider that Russia was forced to go to co-operation with us, since Inguri is the part of the power system of region, which includes Turkey, other countries, and therefore, Moscow needs to observe certain rules of the game," said Saakashvili.

"We are interested in becoming energetically independent, so that we do not face those that Russia made with Ukraine and Europe. Our policy led to the fact that we could ensure independence on Russia in the energy sphere, and I think that this is already recognized," said the President.
