Azerbaijan, Baku, April 21 / Trend, E. Ismayilov /

The British company Fugro under a contract signed with the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) is conducting operations to establish a corporate database of geological, geophysical and oilfield data. Earlier SOCAR announced a tender later won by Fugro.

"The database has already started and is being conducted on schedule," the source said.

The database will be created in three phases over three years. The first phase covers the creation of the database, its downloading and the training of SOCAR staff. In the second phase, SOCAR will be engaged in loading data into the database under the company's leadership. In the third phase, the company will work independently, but with the company's support.

The first phase will be implemented within three years from the date of the signing of the contract. The project may be extended for five years.

The database will store geological and geophysical data on squares, and data on drilling and stock assessments. It will include everything related to the oil and gas sector. Some economic indicators relating to oil and gas may also be included in the database. Foreign companies may also store their data in the database. The services will be offered to companies on a paid basis. The database will safely store specialized information.

SOCAR will offer foreign companies on a paid basis, upon their request, existing data about various sites where companies are interested in working. The data will be presented to the companies to review and if the company is interested in acquiring the data, it will be provided on a paid basis.

Access to the database will be limited.

Azerbaijan has 57 oil and gas fields, including 18 offshore wells.
