BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 10. The Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has supplied over 28 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe since the start of commercial operations, Luca Schieppati, TAP Managing Director, said, Trend reports.

He noted that Italy accounted for 23.5 billion cubic meters of this volume.

“By fulfilling long-term transportation commitments and maximizing short-term capacity, TAP has strengthened security of supply and increased system liquidity,” said Schieppati.

The managing director believes that doubling TAP's capacity will support the energy transition, while ensuring the security of sustainable and competitively priced supplies.

Positioned at the core of Europe's energy infrastructure, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) serves as a critical conduit, facilitating the transportation of approximately 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas to a wide range of markets. Remarkably, TAP holds the potential for substantial expansion, capable of achieving an annual capacity of 20 billion cubic meters. The significance of TAP, both strategically and economically, is emphasized by its essential role in ensuring Europe's reliable access to a fresh natural gas supply. This pivotal role makes a significant contribution to enhancing energy security, advancing the diversification of energy sources, and accelerating the ambitious journey towards achieving decarbonization objectives.
