Babayeva / The Azerbaijani, Turkish, Georgian and Ukrainian communications administrations are working on the establishment of a consortium within the framework of a project for the laying of the Caspian segment of Trans-Asia-Europe (TAE) fibre-optic cable mains in the route of Siyazan (Azerbaijan) and Aktau (Kazakhstan), the Director of the International Contacts and Calculations Centre at the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry, Jalil Jafarov.
According to Jafarov, a meeting was held in Kiev last month, where the project on the construction of TAE's Caspian segment was discussed. Representatives of some 50 companies mulled over the laying, the further exploitation of the segment and its efficiency. The companies interested in the project intend to research the region and to construct a mains on the basis of DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing), technology of spectral compacting of canals, the use of many wavelengths for the transmission of different signals via the single optic fibre.
Within the visit of a delegation of Azerbaijani Communications Ministry to Latvia, a Memorandum was signed between the operators of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. It was signed by the International Contacts and Calculations Centre of Communications Ministry and Kazakhstan's KazTransCom. The expenses will be covered equally by both parties. The cost of the cable constructed via the seabed is approximately $7 - $10mln. The length of the TAE section between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan is 380 km. At the present time the route runs via Turkmenistan and Iran beyond the territory of Azerbaijan.
According to the Communications Ministry, implementation of the project will become a real sensation, as the route will be cut by 2,000 km, what will precipitate traffic of data transmission.
