BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 19. Cargo transportation by sea in Azerbaijan exceeded 6.2 million tons from January through August 2023, which is 23.7 percent more than in the same period last year, Trend reports.
According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, passenger transportation by sea in the reporting period amounted to 15,500 people, which is 10.7 percent more compared to the same period in 2022.
Transshipment of cargo by the seaports of Azerbaijan in the specified period amounted to over 8.8 million tons.
In general, 82.4 percent (7.22 million tons) of Azerbaijan's export cargo transportation by sea accounted for transit cargo, 56.6 percent - for oil.
The volume of cargo in the ports of Azerbaijan amounted to 309,600 tons on the first of September.
Cargo transportation by all modes of transport in Azerbaijan from January through August 2023 amounted to 148.2 million tons, which is 6.5 percent higher than in the same period of 2022. Passenger traffic in Azerbaijan exceeded 1.2 billion people in the reporting period, which is 16 percent higher than in the same period in 2022.
