ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 29. Kazakhstan will be able to send more cargo to Turkic countries, Trend reports.

This is provided for by the Agreement on International Combined Freight Transport between the governments of the countries of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), which was ratified today by the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan. The agreement was signed in Samarkand on November 11, 2022.

The agreement is aimed at further development of transit and transport potential and trade and economic relations between Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye and Uzbekistan. Under the agreement, the volume of cargo transportation carried out by rail, water, and road transport between the member states of the OTS will be increased.

The parties will also cooperate and provide mutual assistance in promoting combined cargo transportation. For this purpose, a Joint Committee is being created from representatives of interested government bodies and organizations, which will be responsible for discussing and resolving relevant issues.

After ratification of the agreement, the parties will be able to take measures to introduce digital technologies in relation to transit transportation and ensure "seamless" multimodal transportation of goods. In order to transition to electronic waybills and waybills in road transport, a Unified transport Document Management System has been developed. It will serve as a tool for Kazakhstan to transition to electronic international eCMR after joining the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road.

Meanwhile, the volume of cargo transportation by all modes of transport in Kazakhstan amounted to 321.3 million tons from January through April 2024. This is 4.4 percent more than the level of the same period in 2023.

Cargo turnover for the preceding period totaled 16.4 billion ton-kilometers, 3.2 percent less than from January through April 2023.

To date, 13 international transport corridors have been formed and are in operation in Kazakhstan, including 5 railways and 8 roads.

Furthermore, about $30 billion has been invested in the transport and logistics infrastructure of Kazakhstan over the past 10 years.

Moreover, in the next five years, at least 40 billion euros will be needed to implement major infrastructure projects in the field of transportation in Kazakhstan.
