ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 30. Kazakhstan is ready to build a highway connecting the Almaty region with the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan, said Finance Minister Madi Takiyev during a meeting with the Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Amangeldiev, Trend reports.
"The Kazakh side is ready to build a highway connecting the Almaty region of Kazakhstan with the Issyk-Kul region of the Kyrgyz Republic," he said.
During the meeting, a high level of bilateral cooperation was noted, and a number of issues in the economic sphere were discussed.
The parties paid special attention to the issue of the functioning and reconstruction of resort and recreational facilities in Kazakhstan, located on the territory of the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan.
To note, the cost of the alternative Almaty-Issyk-Kul highway is estimated by the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic at $86–91 million.
Previously, the Public-Private Partnership Center Kyrgyzstan and the Asian Development Bank jointly developed three routes:
- eastern route (Almaty - Turgen - Anan'yevo - Cholpon-Ata);
- direct road through passes;
- western route (Almaty - Kemin - Boom Gorge - Balykchy - Cholpon-Ata).
As a result, the western route was chosen. The total length of the road will be 260 km. The existing route through Bishkek has a length of 460 km.
