Kazakhstan Railways increases cargo transportation in 7M2024

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 7. Over 144 million tons of cargo were transported through the Kazakhstan Railways' (KTZ, national company) network from January through July 2024, Trend reports.

According to KTZ, intra-republican transportation increased by 2 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to more than 95.6 million tons. Over 49 million tons were sent for export.

At the same time, more than 55 million tons of coal and over 5 million tons of grain were loaded.

In addition, over seven months, transportation of oil cargo increased by 2.5 percent, to 10.9 million tons, ferrous metals by 7.5 percent, to 2.6 million tons, iron and manganese ore by 7.4 percent, to 12.4 million tons, non-ferrous ore and sulfur raw materials by 12 percent, to 14.3 million tons.

Meanwhile, the volume of cargo transportation by rail in Kazakhstan amounted to 416.4 million tons from January through December 2023. This is 2.8 percent more than from January through December 2022.

Concurrently, rail freight turnover during the aforementioned period was 326.8 billion ton-kilometers, up 4.8 percent from the corresponding period in 2022.
