ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 18. Kazakhstan has planned a comprehensive reconstruction of more than 4,000 kilometers of roads between 2027 and 2029, Transport Minister Marat Karabayev said in an interview with local media, Trend reports.
"These roads will be constructed in 2027, 2028, and 2029. Given inflation and future costs, the total expenditure will exceed 6 trillion tenge ($12.4 billion)," he said.
Karabaev mentioned that a good chunk of the funding will be sourced from international financial institutions.
"I believe the scale of the work we are planning—4,800 kilometers of roads—will fundamentally change perceptions of our infrastructure. By 2026, Kazakhstani citizens will notice the difference as we complete key sections through medium repair work," he noted.
He also mentioned plans to carry out medium repairs on 7,000 kilometers of roads by 2026, which will require 450 billion tenge ($937.476 million).
As Karabayev puts it, medium repairs are a walk in the park compared to full reconstruction, costing seven times less and getting done in half the time.
