Turkmenistan will provide humanitarian aid to the population of Turkey affected by the recent devastating earthquake, the Turkmen government said Monday.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov issued a decree instructing the country's Textile Industry Ministry and National Bread Association "Turkmengallaonumleri" to donate textiles and flour to the Turkish Republic.
The earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale jolted Van city in Turkey at 3:41 am on Oct. 23. Tremors were felt in Diyarbekir, Batman, Sirnak, Mus, Erzurum, Bingol, Bitlis, Siirt, Mardin towns.
Local seismologists predicted that the death toll can climb to 1.000 people.
According to recent data, the earthquake's death toll is 601, more than 4.1 thousand people were injured.
Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate said search and rescue efforts had been completed in downtown Van, however relief efforts were underway at two spots in Ercis town.
