Tashkent marks anniversary of Azerbaijanis genocide

A commemorating ceremony was held in the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tashkent in connection with the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis on March 31.

The Azerbaijani cultural center named after Heydar Aliyev hosted the event that was attended by activists of the Azerbaijani Diaspora, the delegation of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) and media representatives.

The participants kept a minute of silence in memory of the victims of genocide.

The event disclosed the history of the genocide of Azerbaijanis, about Armenian brutalities committed in 1905-1907 in Baku, Shusha, Zangazur, Nakhcivan, Ordubad, as well as Gazakh, brutal killing of thousand of Azerbaijanis in Baku, Shamakhi, Guba, Mugan and Karabakh in March-April 1918 and about the expulsion of tens of thousands of peoples from their homes. The participants were also informed about the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Armenian Dashnaks, who seized power under Stepan Shaumyan's leadership in March 1918, cruelly killed tens of thousands of civilian Azerbaijanis in Baku, Shamakhi, Guba, Khachmaz, Lankaran, Hajigabul, Salyan, Zangezur, Karabakh, Nakhchivan and other areas. According to official sources, as a result of the genocide about 12,000 Azerbaijanis were killed, while tens of thousands went missing.
