Tehran province's water consumption marked a new record in the past days, reaching an average of 3.2 million cubic meters, Tehran Water and Wastewater Company's statement said on Wednesday.

In case of continuation of the current consumption tendencies and high temperatures, there could be water shortages in Tehran in the coming days, the company announced, the Mehr News Agency reported.

The company also asked the citizens to consume water responsibly.

Alireza Nozaripour, an official of Tehran Water and Wastewater Company said in June that Iran's precipitation decreased by 30 percent in the previous calendar year, which ended on March 20.

The reservoir of the country's dams has also decreased by 40 per cent, he said.

Iran's water consumption is more than the water consumption of European countries, Nozaripour explained.
