BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. The volume of guaranteed wheat purchased from farmers in North Khorasan Province, located in northeastern Iran, increased by 79 percent from April 10 through August 21, 2024, compared to the same period last year, General Director of the North Khorasan branch of the State Trading Company of Iran Ahmad Namvar said, Trend reports.
According to him, more than 169,000 tons of wheat worth 297 trillion rials (about $722 million) were purchased from farmers in North Khorasan Province during the mentioned period. During the same period last year, 94,600 tons of wheat were purchased from farmers.
Namvar stated that about 6.39 trillion rials ( around $15.5 million) have been paid to farmers so far. It is expected that funds worth 291 trillion rials (about $706 million) will be paid soon.
To note, during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025), 1 kilogram of wheat in Iran is purchased with a guarantee by the State Trading Company for 175,000–180,000 rials (about $4.17–$4.3).
