BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. The transit via Iran has increased by 53 percent during 5 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through August 21, 2024) compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through August 22, 2025), Iran's Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance and Director General of Iran's Customs Administration Mohammad Rezvanifar said, Trend reports.

According to him, a staggering 9.61 million tons of products have been hauled through Iran during the past five months.

Rezvanifar added that 2.7 million tons of products were transported through Parvizkhan Customs, 2.4 million tons through Shahid Rajaee Port Customs, and 1.3 million tons through Bashmaq Customs.

The official stated that compared to the same period last year, the transit of products through Parvizkhan customs increased by 158 percent, through Shahid Rajaee port customs by 17 percent, and through Bashmaq customs by 112 percent.

To note, Iran is located on several international transit routes (North-South International Corridor, East-West International Corridor). Nevertheless, the infrastructure on the trajectory of these routes passing through the country is not fully sufficient, the territory of Iran is not considered a reliable route for international freight companies, and international sanctions have been applied against this country. Therefore, international companies are not interested in transit through Iran.
