Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr. 27

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran seeks to establish trilateral cooperation with Germany and Central Asia, Gholam-Hossein Shafei, the chairman of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Mines said.

Iran wants to move toward trilateral cooperation, especially in the field of technical and engineering services, in Central Asia and Afghanistan, Shafei said.

He made the remarks in a meeting in Tehran with chairpersons of German chambers of commerce, Iran's Fars news agency reported on April 27.

Bilateral trade between Iran and Germany plunged in recent years from around $6 billion to $3 billion mainly due to the economic sanctions against Iran, he noted.

German businesses expect to see their trade volume with Iran double within the next five years if the sanctions against Iran are removed as the result of an emerging final agreement with P5+1 over the Iranian nuclear energy program.

Michael Tockuss, the president of German-Iran Chamber of Commerce, has emphasized that the value of trade between the two countries could reach at least €5 billion from the current level of €2.4 billion once the sanctions against Iran are lifted.

Iran and the P5+1 group of countries are working on a final agreement over the Iranian nuclear program that has a deadline of June 30. A key point of the agreement will be the removal of a series of economic sanctions on Iran.
