Over 100 Prisoners Hunger-striking in Tbilisi Women’s Prison – NGO

Georgia, Tbilisi, 9 June / Trend corr N. Kirtskhalia/ "Over 100 imprisoned women have declared a hunger-strike in the Tbilisi Women's Prison," Nana Kakabadze, President of the Former Political Prisoners for Human Rights NGO, said to journalists.

According to Kakabadze, prisoners state that too strict sentence was applied to them and urged re-consideration. "They say they underwent lawless actions and excessive pressure, and demand to review their cases," she said.

The women also urge to improve the state of prisoners, because the maintenance conditions do not correspond with the international standards.

Kakabadze said the hunger-strike is getting more acute.
