Georgia records over 150 cases of illegal logging

The State Sub-Agency Department of Environmental Supervision has recorded 155 cases of illegal logging and transportation of timber throughout Georgia in May 2020, Trend reports with reference to Georgian media.

Illegal logging and transportation of timber were recorded in 10 regions, including Kakheti - 41 cases, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti - 31 cases, Imereti - 25 cases, Ajara - 17 cases, Samtskhe-Javakheti – 15 cases, Kvemo Kartli - 13 cases, Shida Kartli - 6 cases, Guria - 5 cases, Racha-Lechkhumi and Lower Svaneti – 1 case, and Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 1 case.

The agency reports that 30 cases of violations of technical regulations at sawmills were recorded in May.

In total, the agency discovered 553 cubic meters of illegally extracted timber in May.
