Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 August / Trend , corr. E.Babayev/ The ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) held survey amongst the population with regards to the forthcoming presidential elections. "We know overall attitude. Being based on the results of the survey, we can say that our candidate Ilham Aliyev, who is supported by majority as well, will surely gain victory with majority of voices," Deputy Executive Secretary of NAP, MP Mubariz Gurbanli said.
The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October
So far, the CEC have confirmed the candidatures of the chairman of the Greens Party Mais Gulaliyev, the chairman of the Azerbaijani Unified Popular Front Party Gudrat Hasanguliyev, the chairman of the Muasir Musavat party Hafiz Hajiyev, the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Fuad Aliyev and the chairman of the Umid Party Igbal Agazade, Gulamhuseyn Alibayli, the former chairman of the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party Supreme Assembly, Yashar Ahmadov (an unemployed person), Alimukhtar Akbarov (a pensioner), Sevinj Guliyeva (a junior nurse at the Sumgayit Central Clinic Hospital), Vugar Seyidov (a doctor) and Gudrat Isagov (a senior scientist of the Physics Institute of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences). Within ten days, the presidential contenders should collect more than 40,000 signatures to be registered by the CEC
Up to now, only the ruling party has collected and presented 40,000 required signatures to the CEC. The CEC registered Ilham Aliyev's candidature on 16 August.
According to Gurbanli, despite the fact that the ruling party is sure of the victory of its candidate, the NAP prepared wide plan with respect to the elections. "We have wide plans with regards to election campaign and we continue to carry out our work in the direction of their realization. We completed our works to determine Party members, who will observe elections and other such issues. Election campaign goes according to the schedule determined by us. Using the right provided by the Election Code, we will take different measures in the period of election campaign," said Gurbanli. However, he did not speak about the innovations, which the ruling party will introduce during the agitation period.
NAP was founded in Nakhchivan in 1992. The all-nation leader, the late ex-President Heydar Aliyev was the Party's first Chairman. President Ilham Aliyev is the current chairman of the Party, which has been in power for 14 years.
