Azerbaijan, Baku, August 31 / Trend J. Babayeva /

Secretary on the Press and Propaganda of the Azerbaijani National Independence opposition party, Ali Orujev, will nominate his candidature at municipal elections.

"I will nominate my candidature at municipal elections from Binagadi region where I live. Organization men of the party intend to demonstrate their potential via active participation at elections," Orujev told Trend on August 31.

Azerbaijani municipal elections are scheduled for mid. of December 2009. Municipal elections were held twice in 1999 and 2004.

The Azerbaijani Parliament adopted the law 'Unification of several municipalities' in May.

Number of municipalities was reduced from 2,757 to 1,766 in Azerbaijan.

Orujev said that the Azerbaijani National Independence opposition party will nominate their candidatures on most of municipalities. "Opposition parties have no opportunities to nominate candidatures in all Azerbaijani municipalities in this situation," representative of the Azerbaijani National Independence opposition party said.

Orujev said that the upcoming municipal elections will be held amid high activity of voters.

Azerbaijani National Independence Party was established in 1992. It is the first party in Azerbaijan passing state registration. The party was split after chairman Etibar Mammdov left this party late 2004. Several discontented members left the party during leadership of Ali Aliyev. Presently, Mammadov is deputy chairman of the International Democratic Union.
