The Azerbaijani Press Council has prepared a package of proposals related to the 135th anniversary of the national press.
"We have submitted a package of proposals on the celebration of this historic event to the Presidential Administration," council head Aflatun Amashov told Trend.
The first printed edition of the Azerbaijani national press was released July 22, 1875 by Hasan Bey Zardabi. The Akinchi newspaper was published twice per month with a circulation of 300-400 newspapers until Sept. 29, 1877.
The Azerbaijani Press Council with the Azerbaijani Presidential State Media Support Fund will hold activities to celebrate the anniversary of the national press.
Events are planned in different regions.
"The biggest event in connection with the anniversary, of course, will be in Baku. Media leaders may submit their proposals," Amashov said.
"We have also prepared a proposal in connection with the media promotion. I think we will hold all activities on a high level," he said.
About 4,000 media outlets are registered in Azerbaijan. Only 600 operate. Roughly 400 newspapers and magazines are published. Eight national, 14 and 13 cable televisions channels also function. There are approximately 50 electronic media outlets, and 20 news agencies and Web resources.
