Azerbaijan reduces its reliance on imported wheat

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 16. From January through July 2024, Azerbaijan imported 460,645 tons of wheat, a decrease of 20.3 percent (117,358 tons) compared to the same period in 2023, Trend reports.

According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, the value of these wheat imports was over $102.62 million, which represents a 37.69 percent reduction ($62.064 million) from the previous year.

Over this period, wheat imports made up 0.95 percent of Azerbaijan's overall import total.

Moreover, from January through July 2024, the value of Azerbaijan's food product imports increased by 9.05 percent ($111.458 million), totaling $1.342 billion.

In 2023, Azerbaijan imported 1.175 million tons of wheat, a 9.1 percent decrease (117,655 tons) from 2022.
