ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 13. Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev attended the 2025 CERAWeek global energy summit held in Houston, U.S., Trend reports.

Delivering a speech at the Leadership Dialogue plenary session, Minister Satkaliyev outlined the key directions for the development of the energy sector and shared Kazakhstan's plans for ensuring energy security and transitioning to a "green" economy.

He indicated that in 2024, Kazakhstan's oil production equaled 87.7 million tons (660 million barrels), and by 2030, the country plans to increase this figure to 100 million tons (more than 785 million barrels) per year, in line with the country’s international commitments. The Minister spoke about the measures the government is taking to develop new fields and diversify transportation routes.

"Kazakhstan, as one of the largest oil producers in the world, due to its favorable investment climate, including long-term contracts, attractive tax regimes, and a legal framework protecting foreign investments, has attracted large American multinational corporations such as Chevron and ExxonMobil to enter the market and participate in major projects such as the Tengiz and Kashagan fields," said Satkaliyev.

The Minister also dealt with the development of nuclear energy. He drew attention to the fact that Kazakhstan, following global decarbonization trends, views nuclear energy as one of the promising directions for ensuring long-term energy security. Based on his account, Kazakhstan is working on the issue of building a nuclear power plant and is considering the use of both traditional large-scale reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs). In the future, Kazakhstan intends to create its own nuclear cluster.

The Minister of Energy also highlighted the country's commitment to sustainable development principles.

"Kazakhstan is actively developing cooperation with international partners in the fields of green energy, decarbonization, and methane emission reduction. We see great potential for the implementation of advanced technologies and attracting investments in these areas," added Satkaliyev.

As part of CERAWeek, the Kazakh delegation participated in sessions focused on the future of the gas industry, the role of natural gas in the energy transition, and new technologies in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS).

CERAWeek 2025 is the largest annual energy conference organized by S&P Global, taking place from March 10 to 14, 2025, in Houston, Texas, U.S. The event brings together leading global experts, executives, and policymakers to discuss pressing energy sector issues. Recognized as one of the leading global platforms for energy discussions, CERAWeek this year gathered more than 10,000 participants from 80 countries.
