Uzbekistan and the European Union intend to develop cooperation in energy and transport, and interaction in financial and technical sphere.
It was said at the Uzbekistan-European Union subcommittee's next meeting on economy, trade and investments, held in Tashkent, Uzbek Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Ministry said on Wednesday.
The delegation of the European Commission was led by the Head of Unit for Central Asia at the European External Action Service Victor Andres Maldonado, while Uzbek delegation- Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Minister, Chairman of the subcommittee from the Uzbek side Elyor Ganiyev.
During the meeting, the parties were informed about the macroeconomic development in Uzbekistan and the EU, discussed the current state and prospects of development of bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
According to the Uzbek Foreign Ministry, at present a strong institutional framework has been established between Uzbekistan and the EU, which covers almost all spheres of cooperation.
Cooperation in trade, economic and investment spheres takes an important place in Uzbek- EU relations. At present, the EU as a whole ranks second in Uzbekistan's foreign trade.
Some 841 joint ventures operate in Uzbekistan, including 218 with hundred-per-cent capital from countries, which are not members of the EU.
