TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, August 28. The volume of electricity produced by solar and wind power plants in Uzbekistan has reached 7 billion kilowatt-hours since the beginning of 2025, Trend reports, citing data from the Ministry of Energy.
Currently, 12 solar photovoltaic stations and 4 wind power plants with a combined capacity of 4,582 megawatts are in operation across the country. Of the total generated this year, solar plants accounted for 4.36 billion kWh, while wind facilities produced 2.64 billion kWh. On average, the facilities have supplied 29.1 million kWh of clean energy per day.
The growth marks a sharp increase compared to previous years. In 2022, Uzbekistan’s first solar plants in Navoi and Samarkand regions delivered 434 million kWh to the grid, while in 2023 output reached 576.9 million kWh. Last year, nine solar and one wind power plant together generated 4.86 billion kWh.
According to the ministry, renewable generation this year has helped save 2.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas and prevented the release of nearly 3 million tons of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. Including hydropower, Uzbekistan’s total renewable generation from January to August 28 reached 11.9 billion kWh - accounting for 21.5 percent of the country’s overall electricity production.
Officials noted that this volume of clean energy is equivalent to the eight-month consumption of 7.4 million households, or the annual consumption of 4.9 million households.
