EU appreciates Turkmenistan's efforts for assistance in Afghanistan's revival

The EU appreciates Turkmenistan's steps to assist neighboring Afghanistan in its socioeconomic recovery, EU Special Envoy for Central Asia and Georgia Pierre Morel said at a meeting with President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov, the Turkmen government reported.

The structure particularly welcomes the ongoing efforts to increase Turkmen power exports to the country, Morel said after arriving in Turkmenistan on March 17.

Turkmenistan also proposed holding inter-Afghan peace talks in Ashgabat under the U.N.
"We stand for the peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan," Berdimuhammedov said. "And this, in turn, means developing new political and diplomatic mechanisms for resolving the Afghan problem." He stressed that the Ashgabat Regional Center for U.N.

Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia was created in the country in December 2007.
Turkmenistan provides humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan and builds social infrastructure in border areas through its own funds and supplies power and fuel on advantageous terms.
