Modernization of a number of facilities is planned at the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries, the Turkmenistan State News Agency reported.
A delayed coking unit will be built at the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries. A consortium of WTL FZE (UAE) and Westport Trading Europe Limited (US) companies is the winner of the tender for the completion of the delayed coking unit’s construction.
The new unit licensed by Amec Foster Wheeler company is a complex consisting of delayed coking and tar deasphalting units.
The design capacity of the unit is 900,000 tons of products per year.
In addition to the total petroleum coke, the unit also produces liquefied petroleum gas, which after additional purification will be supplied to the unit for the production of commercial liquefied gas for export. Coke gasoline is a component for the production of A-80 (RON 80) gasoline, or it may be used as raw material at the reforming unit for obtaining high-octane gasoline, the report noted.
Light coke gas oil is also a raw material for the diesel fuel hydrotreatment unit, where car fuel that meets Euro 5 standard will be produced. This is while heavy coke gas oil will become a raw material for a catalytic cracking unit operating at the plant. In the future, it will be possible to use a delayed coking unit for commissioning an additional section for the needle coke production.
“The new unit will be able to significantly improve production efficiency, making it possible to increase the oil processing depth by 10-20 percent at the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries and ensure the production of light oil products with high added value,” the report noted.
“The US company has long been implementing projects in the Turkmen oil and gas market,” said the report. “The projects include commissioning of a modern unit for the production of 37,200 tons of high-quality road bitumen per year and the reconstruction of a reforming unit for obtaining high-octane gasoline at the Seydi oil refinery.”
