Tajikistan's Gorno-Badakhshan region enhances road network

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 14. In the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region of Tajikistan, 12 state investment projects have been implemented for the construction of international roads since establishing independence on September 9, 1991, President Emomali Rahmon said, Trend reports.

According to the press service of the president, during a meeting with regional leaders and activists, Rahmon noted that these projects have a total value of 2.3 billion somoni ($215.9 million).

Since 1991, he stated, 250 kilometers of roads, one tunnel, and 26 bridges have been commissioned.

Rahmon also highlighted that there are currently five ongoing projects in the transport sector within the region, with a total budget exceeding 3.2 billion somoni ($300.4 million).

Additionally, two more state investment projects for the construction and reconstruction of roads and bridges are planned, totaling 2.7 billion somoni ($253.5 million).

The president highlighted that the government is continuously taking measures to implement new investment projects for road construction and reconstruction in the region while seeking funding sources.

Among these are projects for the construction and reconstruction of roads from Rushon to the village of Varshez in the Shugnan district (235 kilometers) and from Varshez to the Kulma-Karasu border checkpoint (300 kilometers).

Since independence, funding for the repair and maintenance of local roads has steadily increased from the state budget, with over 330 million somoni ($30.9 million) allocated for these purposes. As a result, 980 kilometers of local roads and 200 bridges have been repaired and reconstructed.

Additionally, 75 types of road machinery and vehicles, as well as modern equipment, have been purchased for the region during this period.
