BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 9. Iran's imports of passenger cars increased 622 percent in value and 697 percent in quantity during the period of the current Iranian government (from August 22, 2024, through January 4, 2025) compared to the same period last year (August 23, 2023, through January 5, 2024).
The data obtained by Trend from the country's Customs Administration shows that 23,265 passenger cars worth $501 million were imported to the country during the mentioned period.
During the corresponding timeframe last year, a total of 3,223 passenger vehicles, with a remarkable valuation of $63 million, were brought into the nation.
To note, throughout the years, Iran has strategically prioritized the domestic production of passenger vehicles, emphasizing self-sufficiency over reliance on imports. Consequently, it has enacted specific limitations on the importation of passenger vehicles into the nation. Nevertheless, in light of the challenges posed by inadequate local manufacturing capabilities, subpar quality standards, and safety concerns, there has been a strategic recalibration of the import restrictions on passenger vehicles into the nation.
