The UN-Arab League Syria envoy said Friday he had little hope of finding a quick solution to the Syria crisis ahead of talks with the US vice president and Russian foreign minister, DPA reported.
"I am much more conscious of the difficulties and of the country being broken day after day than I am of a solution around the corner," the envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, told a security conference.
He said he would meet US Vice President Joe Biden and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the three-day Munich Security Conference that ends Sunday.
Brahimi said "yes, of course, one has to have some kind of hope but having hope doesn't mean being starry-eyed."
He said that, with Syrians and regional powers unable to end the conflict, "all that is left is the wider international community."
Veto powers Russia and China have blocked past Western attempts for UN resolutions aimed at ending the conflict that has claimed more than 60,000 lives over the past 22 months.
"We need a clear decision from the Security Council to set the agenda for a peaceful solution of the problem," said Brahimi.
