France has returned its ambassador to Syria, a Western diplomat in Beirut said on Friday, more than two weeks after he was recalled for consultations to discuss the worsening violence in the country, DPA reported.
Envoy Eric Chevallier returned to negotiate with the Syrian government the return of the bodies of two Western journalists, including a French national, killed this week in the city of Homs, the diplomat told dpa on condition of anonymity.
The envoy will also try to arrange the evacuation of a French journalist and a British photographer injured in Homs, the diplomat said.
