"Railway station Angoya in the Baikal-Amur Mainline /BAM/ will be named after outstanding state figure of the USSR and Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev," East Siberian Railway, a branch of Russian Railways company, reported to ITAR-TASS on 20 June.
Angoya station is located in Transbaikalia at the 1,181st km of the mainline. The settlement was constructed by Azerbaijani youth messengers over 25 years ago. The station building was constructed with Azerbaijani national elements and decorated with white South Caucasian marble. In 1984, before opening of traffic through the BAM, Heydar Aliyev, then First Deputy Chairman of the USSR Ministerial Council, visited the station.
"Celebration in Angoya will be held in mid July and preparation is currently being implemented. A square near to the station is being reconstructed and railway workers' settlement is being accomplished. Guests will come from Moscow, Baku, Severobaikalsk, Ulan-Ude, Irkuts, and other cities," East Siberian Railway reported.
