Chairman of Congress of World Azerbaijanis Leaves His Post

Azerbaijan, Baku, 24 June / corr. Trend J. Babayeva/ The chairman of the Congress of World Azerbaijanis Golamrza Sabri Tabrizi has left his post. "I was not nominated for the elections of the chairman of the Congress since I think that I have fulfilled my mission. My chief aim was to achieve unity and I achieved it," Golamrza Sabri Tabrizi said to Trend on a telephone from Brussels.

The reunification meeting was held in Brussels in the headquarters of the European Parliament on 21 to 23 June in line with the agreement between CWA led by Tabrizi and Democratic Congress of World Azerbaijanis (DCWA). CWA and DCWA signed agreement on unification during the meeting. A total of 21 people have been elected for the Board of Directors of the organization.

According to Tabrizi, new co-chairmanship institute has been set up according to the changes made to the regulations. Pasha Galbinur has been elected chairman from North Azerbaijan and chairman of DCWA Mammadrza Hashti from the South Azerbaijan. "After the reunification meeting the chief aim of CWA will be to strengthen the Azerbaijani Diaspora and to continue our activities in order to secure the rights of our young compatriots," he added.

According to Tabrizi, at present he is the honorary chairman of CWA and he will lead the center of the organization to be established in Brussels.

Tabrizi said that he will not comment on the statements of Sabir Rustamkhanli any more. The mutual accusations harm the image of Azerbaijan, he said.

Ramiz Abutalibov who represented Azerbaijani Diaspora from Russia said to Trend that the reunification meeting was success and establishment of the co-chairmanship institute will contribute to the activities of the Azerbaijani Diaspora.

CWA was divided into two parts as a result of the disagreements and 11 members out of 16 members of the Board of Chairmen decided to remove chairman Golamrza Sabri Tabrizi from his post and elected Sabir Rustamkhanli chairman. The remaining part of the members supported the chairmanship of Golamrza Sabri Tabrizi and held a meeting on 22-23 June in Brussels in the European Parliament. Some 300 representatives and guests from 25 countries took part in the CWA meeting presided over by Rustamkhanli. Changes were made to the regulations and program of the organization. The co-chairmanship institute will be established in CWA with Sabir Rustamkhanli and Firudin Parvizyani being elected co-chairman. Golamrza Sabri Tabrizi considers Keln meeting to be illegitimate.
