Ashgabat hosts a workshop on the international experience in the field of gender policy with a view to its implementation in the national law-enforcement practice, the Turkmen government reported.
The two-day workshop is organized by the National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the Turkmen President jointly with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The event is attended by members of the Interdepartmental Commission for the implementation of Turkmenistan's international commitments in the field of human rights.
Turkmenistan has acceded to major international instruments on human rights, including the Declaration and the Convention on the Rights of Women. The principle of gender equality, equal opportunities for men and women in all areas of social and political life, is defined as one of the main priorities of the state policy in accordance with the Turkmen Constitution and the generally accepted international norms.
