ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, May 31. Chinese exports to Turkmenistan have been increasing at an average annual rate of 20 percent over the past five years, with total shipments surpassing $1 billion in 2024, Trend reports, citing Li Yue, Commercial and Economic Counselor at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Turkmenistan.
China’s exports to Turkmenistan mainly consist of equipment, vehicles, and consumer goods, while Turkmenistan exports natural gas, cotton yarn, and agricultural products to China.
Li Yue highlighted the growing significance of Chinese companies in Turkmenistan’s economy, particularly emphasizing the roles of Huawei, CRRC Ziyang, and Yutong.
Over the past two decades, Huawei has carried out more than 20 major projects aimed at developing and modernizing Turkmenistan’s telecommunications infrastructure. These initiatives have extended advanced communication services to over 3 million users. A flagship project includes the deployment of a 4G+ network in the smart city of Arkadag, where plans are underway to upgrade to 5G technology in the near future.
In 2024, the bilateral trade volume between the People's Republic of China and Turkmenistan escalated to $10.6 billion, reflecting an 11 percent uptick relative to the preceding fiscal year, thereby accentuating the intensifying economic synergy between the two sovereign entities.
