BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 28. A national transit program is being prepared in Iran to increase transit and cargo transportation, Trend reports.
The relevant meeting of the National Transit Headquarters was held in Tehran with the participation of Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref today.
The meeting exchanged views on the initial text of the national transit program document, and it was decided that the working group will reach a final conclusion within the next two weeks and submit the document to the government for approval.
The purpose of preparing this document is to establish coordination to double Iran's revenues from transit and cargo transportation, and to increase Iran's share in the regional and extra-regional values.
At the meeting, Aref said that one of Iran's priorities is to address transit problems, and there is no other way to solve problems at the country's border terminals than to establish coordination.
He noted that solving management problems is necessary to improve the country's transit and cargo transportation situation, and carrying out structural reforms is one of the main goals of development.
"The additional bureaucracy at Iran's borders compared to neighboring countries is one of the main problems, as a result of which Iran cannot benefit from the benefits of transit. Trucks are delayed at Iranian border terminals for various reasons. This issue creates additional costs for the country. In the most optimistic case, they are being overly cautious at the borders," he pointed out.
