Alstom is going to handle potentially big projects such as reconstruction of Iraqi railway network from its new office in Baku, Bernard Peille, Alstom Managing Director for Western and Central Asia Cluster, told Trend in an exclusive interview on July 2.
Commenting on relocation of company’s regional center to the capital of Azerbaijan, Peille said that Alstom will be pleased to develop their business from here.
“We are pleased to be in our new office in Baku. From here, we will be developing our business from not only in Azerbaijan and the region, but in other countries as well. For example, we have big prospects in Iraq to participate in reconstruction of railway and metro system. Baku is a nice place to handle such potentially big projects to come,” Peille said.
Peille earlier told Trend that Alstom is interested in modernization and maintenance of the rolling stock of the Tashkent Metro.
On June 27, Alstom presented its first electric locomotive Prima T8 AZ7A for the Azerbaijan Railways (ADY). The presentation of the locomotive was held at the Electric Locomotive Plant (EKZ), located in the territory of the Astana Special Economic Zone in Kazakhstan.
Alstom is a major French engineering company, one of the world leaders in production of power equipment and railway transport.
Alstom entered the Kazakhstan’s railway market in June 2010 together with its Russian partner Transmashholding (TMH), by laying the first stone of the EKZ facility in order to build locomotives for the Kazakh network.
In September 2017, it was announced that Alstom will become the core of the new Siemens-Alstom concern, which will also include German Siemens and Siemens Mobility. The German company will get just over 50 percent of the shares.
