The U.S. is not against the diversion of supplies of Central Asian gas to China, U.S. Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy, Richard Morningstar, said in Astana.
"We do not think that gas volumes transported to China, compete with those transported to the West", Morningstar said.
He said that there are enough natural gas reserves in Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
"If these resources are developed, it will be enough to supply gas to the West and China. We hope that Turkmenistan will supply gas to the West. One day Kazakhstan will also start supplying gas to the West," Morningstar said.
He said that the more gas China will use, the less coal will be used in this country. It will positively impact on the environment. Moreover, if the gas is transported from the Central Asian republics to China, then it means that other sources of gas supply, which may be transported to Europe, are free," Morningstar said.
