BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27. Azerbaijan's payment card turnover through ATMs and POS terminals increased by 3.2 billion manat ($1.8 billion), or 38.06 percent, from 8.4 billion manat ($4.9 billion) to 11.6 billion manat ($6.8 billion) in July 2024, Trend reports.
According to the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), the total number of payment card transactions amounted to 172.012 million (up by 53.65 percent over the year), including 6.102 million transactions worth 316 million manat ($185.8 million) carried out abroad.
The number of debit card transactions (both inside and outside the country) amounted to 158.302 million for 10.9 billion manat ($6.4 billion), of which 15.343 million transactions worth 3.7 billion manat ($2.1 billion) were made through ATMs inside the country and 50.859 million transactions worth 922 million manat ($542.3 million) were made through POS terminals inside the country.
Bank customers made 13.709 million transactions totaling 774 million manat ($455.2 million) through credit cards (both inside and outside the country).
Meanwhile, 497,000 transactions worth 124 million manat ($72.9 million) were made through ATMs inside the country, while 6.834 billion transactions worth 191 million manat ($112.3 million) were made through POS terminals.
To note, as of August 1, 2024, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 2.994 million, or 19.51 percent, compared to the same period last year and reached 18.34 million against 15.346 million a year earlier.
