The Turkic Council can play a key role in the international transport of goods (TIR), Deputy Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking Countries Mirvokhid Azimov said.
Azimov made the remark during the online meeting of the working group on the "Electronic TIR System (eTIR)" with the participation of representatives of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the customs structures of the Turkic Council member-states, Trend reports.
“The economic portfolio of the Turkic Council includes the simplification of customs procedures, as well as through the digitalization of transit operations,” deputy secretary-general added.
During the meeting, representatives of the customs administrations of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan spoke about national transit systems, current progress in digitalization of transit procedures and the use of IT tools within the TIR procedure, in particular about pilot projects on the use of TIR electronic pre-declaration of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) being implemented by some member-states (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan).
Chief of the UNECE Transport Facilitation and Economics Section Konstantinos Alexopoulos made a presentation on the key changes and UNECE actions in relation to the eTIR international system.
Alexopoulos spoke about international experience and practice in the use of transit systems and digitalization of transport documents, such as eTIR and eCMR applications (electronic consignment notes).
Moreover, the meeting participants exchanged the views on the possibilities of integrating the customs information systems of the Turkic Council member-states with the eTIR international system and discussed further joint steps that should be taken for this.
The first online meeting of the working group on the "Electronic TIR System (eTIR)" was held with the participation of representatives of the UNECE and the customs structures of the Turkic Council member-states on June 15, 2021.
