DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 11. The two units of the Rogun Hydropower Plant (HPP) in Tajikistan have collectively generated over 6.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, for more than 1.5 billion somoni ($136.8 million) over a span of four years, Trend reports.
This was stated by President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon during his visit to the Rogun HPP, where he met with the project's builders.
Speaking before the builders, the president emphasized that in the current year alone, around 2.6 billion somoni ($237.1 million) had been allocated from the budget to cover construction, installation, research, procurement of equipment, materials, and services of the project.
Additionally, a sum of 427 million somoni ($38.9 million) had been accrued from the sale of electricity produced by the Rogun HPP.
The first unit of the Rogun HPP commenced operations on November 16, 2018, followed by the second unit on September 9, 2019.
Rogun HPP is currently under construction on the Vakhsh River in the Pamir Mountains in Tajikistan and planned to achieve full operational capacity in 2028, generating 13,300 GWh of electricity per year.
Meanwhile, electricity generation in Tajikistan totaled 10.653 billion kWh from January through June 2023, which is an increase of 341.2 million kWh in comparison to the same period the previous year.
