BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. Despite a growing demand for natural gas in Iran's household and industrial sectors, the country has achieved new records in gas supply to its power plants, Trend reports.
Majid Chegeni, the CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), revealed that the daily average gas supply to power plants had surged to 306 million cubic meters from the start of summer until late August. This marks a notable 12-percent rise year-on-year.
Chegeni, who also serves as a Deputy Oil Minister, highlighted that the highest gas supply volume to Iranian power plants during last year's summer reached approximately 302 million cubic meters. In contrast, this year's achievement set a new benchmark at 318 million cubic meters, a milestone reported on July 11.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the increased gas supply to the power plants has resulted in savings of over $1.5 billion by reducing the need for other fuel sources typically utilized for electricity generation in the country.
