Iran's Bushehr Province ports see spike in cargo handling operations

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 2. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at the ports of Iran’s Bushehr Province rose by 64 percent during the seven months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through October 21, 2024), compared to the same period last year (from March 21 through October 22, 2023), Director General of Bushehr Province’s Ports and Maritime Department Mohammad Shakibinasab said, Trend reports.

The official noted that 3.95 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at the ports of Bushehr Province for 7 months.

Shakibinasab added that about 2 million tons of crude oil and related products were loaded and unloaded in Bushehr port during the mentioned period, showing an increase of 95 percent compared to the same period last year.

He mentioned that a whopping 1.9 million tons of non-oil products were loaded and unloaded at the ports of Bushehr Province in the reporting period, which is 45 percent higher than the same time last year.

The representative of the port noted that about 41,500 TEU containers were loaded and unloaded in Bushehr port during the 7 months, an increase of 41 percent compared to the same period last year.

To note, the current throughput capacity of Iranian ports is more than 285 million tons. Iran is taking steps to increase the capacity of ports to 500 million tons.
