Three Hamas militants were killed early Saturday in an Israeli airstrike on a car they were travelling in near the southern Gaza Strip city of Kahn Younis, doctors and Hamas sources said, DPA reported.

Medics said that the bodies of three Palestinian militants were taken to al-Aqsa Hospital in central Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army had announced on Thursday that a homemade projectile was launched from the Gaza Strip, ruled by Hamas, and landed at southern Israel. No injuries or damage was reported.

The Israeli airstrike came a few days of relative calm. Last month the Gaza Strip witnessed an escalation of violence between Israel and Gaza militants, where at least 13 Palestinians were killed and more than 30 wounded. Around 30 Israelis were injured.

Hamas said in a statement that the three militants are members of al-Qassam Brigades, and movement vowed to revenge their death.
