Toyota resumes production at all domestic plants after disaster

Toyota Motor Corp resumed manufacturing operations at all domestic plants Monday for the first time since the March 11 earthquake and resulting tsunami that hit north-eastern Japan, dpa reported according to news.

Toyota resumed output at 14 plants, based on delivery of parts from its suppliers, for the first time since production was suspended on March 14 following the disaster, Kyodo News reported.

Toyota said affiliate companies also resumed operations at factories in Miyagi and Iwate prefectures, the region hit hard by the disaster, Kyodo said.

The world's largest carmaker said output levels would be about 50 per cent of normal operations or initially planned volume for the time being, due to ongoing difficulties in parts procurement, Kyodo said.

The March 11 disaster killed more than 13,700 and left some 14,100 people missing, according to Japan's National Police Agency.
