The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs will organize meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents in early May, OSCE Minsk Group U.S. co-chair Matthew Bryza told Trend after a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
"The meeting was fruitful. We learned president's position regarding normalization of Turkey-Armenia ties," he said.
Azerbaijani and Armenian president can meet to discuss resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in Prague in early May as a part of the summit of the EU member states and partners.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.
Bryza said Minsk Group's task is to contribute to resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"I believe we achieved progress today. We expect president to meet in Prague on May 7," he said.
He said the presidents must coordinate the meeting. "We plan to work on this issue," Bryza said.
