A gas leak resulted in an explosion at the Central Election Commission (CEC) office at 24 Nizami Abdullayev St. in the Keshla settlement of the Nizami region at 11:30, the CEC told Trend on Jan. 8.
Fifty-nine-year-old chairman of the local CEC office Aydin Valiyev was injured in the blast. He was rushed to Clinical Hospital No. Five with third-degree burns. Neighboring areas were also damaged in the explosion, Police Office No. Twenty-Three told Trend .
The General Prosecutor's Office has sent a statement to Azerigaz CJSC recently to take urgent safety measures due to the frequent gas explosions as of late. Its press service told Trend that many Azerbaijanis have resorted to using homemade gas stoves that do not meet technical norms due to the cold weather.
